Story

Biocacao is a social enterprise based in Guayas working with farmers in the regions of Esmeraldas, Manabí, Guayas and Los Ríos. In order to be an approved Biocacao supplier, the participating farmers have to adhere to key social, economic and environmental principles. The implementation of these principles is done through an internal certification system called Caobio. Biocacao trains these farmers on best agroforestry farming practices, distributes natives species for reforestation, supports its members' children with school supplies each year, and regularly organizes workshops for members to learn how to set up their own small businesses and learn skills in jewelry making, catering and bakery. The participation of women and young people is encouraged actively through different projects.
