Prices upon requestÖko Caribe works alongside more than 160 farmers in Duarte. Together, they produce and commercialize around 500 MT of top quality Organic certified cacao on a yearly basis. Through technical and financial support, the small holder farmers are able to improve the quality and yield of their cacao which is collected fresh and fermented in a state of the art fermentation center run by Öko Caribe. Öko Caribe conventional cocoa beans showcase the same commitment to quality as the company has shown with its organic certified cacao. -

It borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Rwenzori Mountains (also known as Mountains of the Moon because of their white snow capped peaks). This region is best known for having the only lowland tropical rainforest in Eastern Africa: Semuliki Forest. Most people in the region are dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry. Bundibugyo is Uganda's biggest cocoa producing area. -

The organization is run by family members of the associates and oversees not only the technical support of the farms and the production of predominantly organic cacao, but also the manufacture of semi-processed products and chocolate. El Ceibo and all of its proud members are linked by their cacao heritage and their commitment to producing top quality cacao and chocolate. -

The exports of cocoa beans, however, beganaround 1830, when wealthy families bought large expanses of land to produce cocoa beans. It was the first product ever exported from Ecuador. This organic certified cocoa is sourced from different producer groups in the Guayas Province of Ecuador. Through the organic certification, these farmers have a stable outlet for their cacao production. Through their organizations, farmers have access to technical assistance, micro finance, improvement of their shared post-harvesting facilities and processes. -

The bittersweet history of cacao on both islands was reflected in the neglect of plantations and crops for many decades. Belize Peini Cacao Organic
Prices upon requestPeini Cacao Plantation has been operating in the south of Belize since 2016. Peini culitvates cacao on 3 farms spread across 60 hectares of land. Their operation also includes a centralized cacao processing facility, a cacao warehouse and a retail chocolate location for their brand Mahogany Chocolate. Through their sister company, Belize Cacao Traders - BCT - Peini Plantation reaches out to small holder farmers and collects wet mass from more than 200 local cacao producing families. They also teamed up with an association of local Maya cacao farmers, the Na’Lu’Um Cacao Institute, to facilitate resources to the farmers they work with to improve their yield and ultimately, their yearly incomes. -

Trinidad is also home to the Cocoa Research Centre of the University of the West Indies where ground breaking research has been conducted for decades on genetics, flavour profiling, quality, post harvesting processes and cocoa processing, among other topics. The CRC experts provide regular trainings to professionals and farmers around the world. It also manages one of the world's most diverse collections of cacao germplasm: the International Cocoa Genebank. -
