Puerto Cabello, Carabobo State, Venezuela
Story
Puerto Cabello is Venezuela’s biggest port, located on the north coast of the country. Already a busy port during the Spanish colony, the Spaniards used to say that the sea was so calm there that a ship could be secured to the dock by tying it with a single hair (hair = cabello). In the 17th century, Dutch smugglers used the port to contraband cacao to the Dutch colony of Curaçao. Years later, the region would become a cacao growing area and to this day, this cacao legacy lives on through the people and their culture.
